With the refusal to eat or drink anything with those chemicals in, I decided to give up caffeine too. This is something I have done before. When I was in rehab I totally abstained from caffeine. No more coffee, tea, cola - even Irn-Bru was on my hitlist. When I was discharged and re-entered life among the healthy, my intake went from zero to huge amounts once again.
The process was awful. Much like the Aspartame, I went cold turkey. This time I've taken a more gradual approach. The sweetener laden diet sodas are long in the past so that is a massive source of caffeine already taken care of. I ran out of coffee about a week ago and will be buying decaff to replace it.
In its place, I have been drinking tea. I am aware that tea contains caffeine also but I will be switching to decaff tea too... and that might be sooner than I thought. I have just used the last tea bag in caddy! Unless there are more in the cupboard, the caffeine detox begins after I swallow this last mouthful.
