I read an article, written by a fellow author who I've never met, and the advice was very simple. Stop writing.

Odd, you might think. That this advice was given to authors by a fellow author. But it was very sound advice. You can get into a rut where you set yourself unobtainable goals and start to stress yourself when you don't hit your targets. As a result your output suffers in both volume and quality. This was the situation I found myself in.

After letting the article sink in I decided to follow the advice. I wouldn't, I resolved, write anything for a whole week. Fortunately I had planned ahead and have a month's worth of The Fallen prepared. Everything else was to be ignored.

I tidied my hard drive and backed up (was it really that long since last time???). I tidied my bungalow, watched a few films I meant to see and generally lazed about.

Then something unexpected happened. A story, almost fully-formed, popped into my head. The fourth installment of the Blue Jackets to be precise. I had a lot elements floating around in my head but when I removed the pressure they coalesced into a cohesive story. I have started to write it but already it feels a hell of a lot longer than parts 1-3. Could this be the first novel I've been threatening to write? I don't know but it will certainly be novella length at the very least.

Writing feels, for the first time in a while, like fun again. Happy days!

Preparation of the third Blue Jackets book, Thursday's Child ramped up. Work on the final, final, final edits had taken place and the cover is complete. I have to say I'm massively impressed with it. I've always wished I could draw but have never been able to.

Cast your eyes downwards to see it!

The new Blue Jackets project, The Fallen, has gone live. The series, told in easily digestible Flash Fiction bites, will expand the Blue Jackets universe and follow the fate of the fallen...

Read it here!

A new episode each Sunday!

Recently I started to get bogged down with the number of pieces I was working on as well as my personal goal of trying to get out of the wheelchair.

As a result of having so much to do I had ground to a halt and nothing was progressing. I made some fairly hard decisions with regards to what I would be writing as well as what I would be spending my personal time on.

Several pieces that I had been working on have been dropped (some for the time being, others permanently). This has left me able to concentrate on the Blue Jackets and 'The Side Of A Mountain'. It has also allowed me to work on the weekly Flash Fiction episodes of 'The Fallen' which will expand on the Blue Jackets universe and will be appearing FREE on this site each Sunday starting 22nd April 2012.

It also means that my 'Angry Disabled Man' channel will be discontinued (unless something really gets my goat!)

A side-project to the Blue Jackets will be appearing on this site shortly. The weekly webisodes will flesh out the world of Tim, Lydia and Tuesday. Look out for them soon!

Well, two days in and I've only had one fall! The physio said giving me crutches was a risk and falls would be backwards. She was right on both counts but luckily I fell onto my sofa so o harm done!

Exciting times for me!

Yesterday wasn't good. That was an understatement if ever I wrote one! I'm not allowed to divulge information, nor do I want to but it was an awful day. I re-entered a part of my life that I thought was long gone and good bloody riddance to it!

Things perked up because I actually managed to do something useful and productive later in the day. This may or may not be a long-term positive thing but in the short term it was great.

The day ended spectacularly well though. I was just about to go to bed for the night when my phone beeped. I thought it was an SMS but no, it was an email (I really must give them different tones!).

The email was from my publisher and included a rough outline of the cover for Blue Jackets III. Based on the two sentence brief I gave the artist nailed it!The actual finished cover may not bear any resemblance to the sketch but it was enough to cheer me up and help me move on with my day. Have a sneak peek!

The recent giveaway on Induction was very exciting! On both sides of the Atlantic the Blue Jackets series picked up a raft of new readers - welcome aboard! It was such a buzz as I watched the first two parts of the Blue Jackets series move up and down the charts.

I hope that the new readers I gained stay with me and spread the word :)

I could do with some downtime but sadly the mundane routines of day to day life are no different for me than they are for any other person. I am half way through tidying my study. It's no wonder that I'm writing slowly at the minute - my computer desk looks like someone threw a hand grenade on it! Hard to concentrate when it's so messy...

I got a great reaction to my last blog. Thanks for everyone who emailed me or messaged me on Facebook. I'm glad to know as many people were as touched as I was.

I witnessed something amazing last night that I want to share with you all. I was at a party and, for once, I wasn't the only wheelchair user in the room. One of the disabled guests was a girl around thirteen-ish (a guess) and she seemed quite badly impaired.

She looked bored all night then she got 'Mr Brightside' by The Killers played. The smile on her face was amazing but then she started waving her one good arm wildly. That was the signal for her to be helped out of her chair. With the help of what I assume were her parents she danced. It was a beautiful moment. Everyone has a song that they just have to dance to. She's found hers. What's yours?

In case you didn't know: this weekend the first part of my Superhero series is free on Kindle. So pop over to Amazon and pick it up for no monies! :) If you don't have a Kindle then you can have the software for free as well and install it to your computer or smartphone. Join the growing numbers of Blue Jackets fans :)
